Sariska Tiger Reserve and National Park: Entice your Wildlife Watching Spree

Sariska National Park and Tiger Reserve is one of the most popular national parks of India. Surrounded by Aravalli, this national park is situated near Alwar in Rajasthan. Sprawling over 881 sq km, Sariska National park is dominated by deciduous and semi-deciduous vegetation, small hillocks and grassy meadows. Housing more than 100 bird and animal species, the best time to visit Sariska is winter. October to February, though quite chilly, marks the best time to explore this forest. Summer months are sweltering and immensely hot, but if you wish to watch amazing wildlife, be ready to bear the scorching heat in Sariska.

Flora and Fauna

Predominant species that are seen in Sariska are khair, dhak, gol, salar, ber, jamun, arjun, behra, bamboo and mango. There are about 18 Bengal tigers in Sariska. Along with that, other animals include deer, jungle cats, stryped hyena, wild boar, sambar, nilgai, leopards, Indian jackel and porcupine.

Useful Information on Sariska National Park

The forest reserve is open from 6 AM to 8 PM for tourists every day. For entrance, Indians need to pay INR 80/person and foreigners need to pay INR 470/person. Video and movie camera charges are extra. During summer months, safari happens between 6 am to 10 am and 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Visitors can avail safari in jeeps, buses, tonga, cycle rickshaws and two wheelers. Charges vary with the mode of transport. Safari in jeep costs about INR 2600/4 persons, open bus safari is about INR 4200/ 6 people, INR 15/person for two wheelers and INR 20/person for tongas. For cycle rickshaws, the cost for safari is INR 5/person.
